When should you buy a miter saw?
When you’re working on the following projects (this is just my opinion)
- hardwood floor installation
- laminate floor installation
- crown molding
- door casings
- window casings
- framing
Yah, those are a few projects that go faster if you have a miter saw.
Today’s review is about DeWalt’s 20V Max 7 1/4″ cordless sliding compound miter saw model DCS361M1
The most obvious thing about the saw is the power source: DeWalt’s 20V Max Li-Ion battery.
I immediately charged it after opening the box.
It took 1 hour 15 minutes to fully charge.
If you already have 20V Max tools this battery work’s with them.
That’s cool.
Here’s the deal, you can buy DeWalt’s cordless miter saw with or without the battery.
The cost is $399 with the battery/charger and $319 without them.
I’d say pass on the battery if you already have a few DeWalt 20V Max tools.
The nice thing about DeWalt’s cordless miter is it’s portable.
It weighs around 30 lbs.
You can mount it to a workbench using the provided holes.
Use screws or bolts to secure it.
The 7-1/4″ saw blade can cut up to 2 x 8s.
BUT we actually prove the saw can handle 2 x 10s…you’ll see in the video.
I like the blade size.
Primarily because they’re circular saw blades.
So it’s easy to interchange blades between circular and miter saws.
Who doesn’t love saving money and being efficient!
Bevel cuts can be made up to 45 degrees.
Miter cuts can be made up to 48 degrees.
There are 10 positive stops on the aluminum detent plate.
This along with the miter lock knob make cutting mites quick and straight forward.
Of course, always be careful when cutting stuff…gotta keep your fingers for other projects.
DeWalt uses their XPS system to cast a shadow on your work piece.
Other saws sometimes use laser lines.
They both work very well, except if you’re using the saw in the blazing sun.
Very bright light makes it hard to see the XPS line.
But the same thing happens with lasers
Wish I had a good picture of the XPS system.
You’ll have to watch the video to see it in action.
You can use the dust bag to contain dust.
Or attach your shop vac to the DCS361.
It’s up to you.
If you move the saw I recommend taking off the dust bag.
That way you won’t accidentally dump all the contents in your car or truck.
Sliding compound miter saws cut a variety of materials.

Here’s a woodworking tip: saw blades make all the difference.
The higher the tooth count the better the cut.
60 tooth blades are great for hardwood and casings, materials your eye will see all the time.
Framing can be cut with framing saw blades.
These typically have 24 teeth.
