How to Cut Tile Without Dust

This tutorial will share several tips for how to cut tile. No doubt, angle grinders are awesome tools for cutting ceramic or porcelain tile.

But if they’re used incorrectly it can be dangerous.

Also, inhaling dust from tile or grout is unsafe.

So we’ve got special tool tips for you.

Let’s dive in!

How to Cut Tile with Angle Grinders

Why are angle grinders such great tools for tile?

First, equipped with the right diamond blade, angle grinders can cut any ceramic or porcelain tile.

In addition, some tiles require large holes or moon shapes for toilet flanges or shower valves.

Angle grinders are the right tool for those situations.

But here’s the deal,

Always use the wheel guard.

Even we have some videos, albeit our first ones, showing angle grinders without wheel guards.

This is a big mistake because if a diamond blade breaks it could cause serious injury or death.

Disclaimer: Always practice safe cutting with angle grinders and follow manufacturer directions – and wear safety gear like a silica dust respirator, eye protection, hearing protection, and gloves.

How to Cut Tile Without Dust

Angle grinders are great tile cutting tools but they make a lot of dust, which ins’t safe.

Wearing a silica dust respirator helps keep dust out of lungs.

But there’s a better way to maintain clean work areas: HEPA vacuums.

Yes, they are an investment but well worth it.

For example, Fein’s Turbo II HEPA vac is excellent.

Plus, angle grinders can be plugged directly into the Turbo II.

This is super cool because when the grinder is turned on, the Turbo II will kick on as well.

And this system can be taken a step further by installing a dust collection cover on the angle grinder!

All the silica dust will be extracted automatically by the Turbo II when the angle grinder is being used…this is awesome.

Watch our video to see how to set up the Turbo II with the dust collection cover and angle grinder, it’s well worth the time

What’s Next

We freely admit this system is an investment but the Turbo II combined with an angle grinder like the WSG7 is fantastic.
